The history of Monchique goes back to roman times, where the Romans were attracted by the thermal waters.
The development of the town was attributed to the growth of the wool and flax mills; and to the Chestnut tree saw mills.
It is a land situated in the middle of the mountains of Fóia and Picota, with a cool climate and surrounded by the natural park of Monchique.
Everyone should visit the town to see the typical Algarve architecture, unusual from those of the coast and also to enjoy the spectacular views over the mountains and down to the sea.
