Having focused his career early in the tourism industry, he became Resort Operations Director for one of the area’s leading resort and property developers, The Vigia Group. Overseeing their four leisure resorts in the Western Algarve, Luís was responsible for the management of 350 properties, as well as the food and beverage facilities, leisure departments, estates, maintenance, and resort marketing for the group’s flagship golf and leisure resort, Parque da Floresta. This 4-year experience, coupled with an involvement in the resort’s property development areas and an already intimate knowledge of the Western Algarve, provided Luís with the understanding necessary to start Casas do Barlavento in 2002. Luís holds a BA in Hotel and Tourism Management from the “Universidade Internacional” in Lisbon, a certification in Hotel Marketing from Cornell University in the USA and a post-graduate degree in Real Estate Management and Valuation from the prestigious “Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão” in Lisbon. Luís is also a certified Hotel Manager, in line with the requirements of the Portuguese Tourism Board.
Although he has spent time in both America and the United Kingdom, he was tempted back to his birthplace, and the Algarvian weather early on – the perfect country for an enthusiastic horse lover. His entrepreneurial spirit and business sense have seen the company grow from modest beginnings to a successful enterprise. Luís leads with an open-door management style and his enthusiasm and energy motivate and inspire staff. At Casas do Barlavento Luís is responsible for the marketing, business development and financial aspects of the business and his dedication to providing the best services drives him to always seek growth and improvement, especially in technological advancements. Maintaining high levels of service and achievement means finding a successful formula to balance both the personal and professional lifestyle.
Luís is an enthusiastic horse rider and owns a purebred Lusitano stallion, named Ciclone.
